<브레이크뉴스 강원 = 김일웅 기자> 북부지방산림청이 올해 180억 원의 대규모 예산을 투입해 산사태 등 산림 재난으로부터 국민의 생명과 재산을 보호하는 철벽 방어막 구축에 나선다.

북부지방산림청은 관내 18개 시·군 국유림을 대상으로 산림 유역 관리 사업 7개소, 사방댐 16개소, 계류 보전 17㎞, 산지 사방 13.1㏊ 조성을 추진한다고 4일 밝혔다. 특히 여름철 장마와 집중호우에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 모든 사방 시설을 우기 전까지 완공하는 것을 목표로 사업에 박차를 가하고 있다.

이번 사업 대상지는 산사태 취약 지역 등 인명 및 재산 피해 우려가 높은 생활권 주변을 최우선으로 선정했다. 내실 있는 시공과 품질 향상을 위해 지난해부터 설계 심의회와 현장 자문회의를 개최했으며, 주민 설명회를 통해 지역 사회의 목소리를 충분히 수렴하며 공정성을 높였다.

특히 올해는 산림 내 유역을 통합적으로 관리하는 산림 유역 관리 사업을 전년 대비 대폭 확대했다. 또한 양평군 양동면에는 산사태 예방은 물론 산불 발생 시 진화 용수 확보 기능까지 겸비한 다목적 사방댐을 신설하는 등 다양한 사방 공법을 도입해 재해 예방 효과를 극대화할 계획이다.

송준호 북부지방산림청장은 “최근 빈번해진 극한 호우에 대비해 산사태 대응 역량을 한층 강화해야 하는 시점”이라며 “철저한 대응 태세 점검과 내실 있는 사업 추진으로 산림 재해로부터 군민들을 지키는 안전 파수꾼 역할에 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.
